Final Thoughts
Looking back at who I was when I began this program, I realize the tremendous improvements and significant transition I have made. I always knew I had a passion to teach others, however I did not obtain the knowledge necessary to be a professional. The various classes and experiences that I have been exposed to in this program have given me a great foundation that I can continually build on. I know have a philosophy on education and an understanding of how students learn. One of the biggest obstacles I overcame was understanding how I was taught in school compared to how students should be taught in the classroom today. I was exposed to teacher centered learning environments and and emphasis on individual work. What I have learned is that today's classroom calls for student centered learning environments that take advantage of the social aspect of school. I have also learned that positive interactions make a difference and as a teacher it is my job to be a positive catalyst in the classroom.
Going forward i will remember my previous work experience at the high school level and will remember seeing students who have such large skill deficits in core ares such as reading, writing, and math. It is not only important to teach these core areas, however as a teacher my job is to incorporate them in all that we do and be cross curricular. I believe the most important thing is to make a genuine effort to reach all students and teach them what they need to know to be productive, responsible and well rounded citizens in society.
